Percentage of employed persons in relation to the total population.

Comment
  • In the context of the EU labour force survey (Eurostat), an employed person is an individual aged 15 and over (16 and over in Iceland and Norway) who during the reference week performed work – even if just for one hour a week;
  • for the overall employment rate, the comparison is made with the population of working-age, but employment rates can also be calculated for a particular age group and gender in a specific geographic area;
  • this term is close to, but not synonymous with: activity rate.
